Covid - Update: All dog training services offered through Off on the Right Paw are on-site and outdoors. Some programs do involve off-site excursions, but within existing Covid restrictions. Off on the Right Paw offers force-free training services appropriate for dogs of all ages: puppies, teens and adults, from puppy socialization, basic manners to sports (agility, nose work, Rally-O, musical freestyle), as well as custom privates for problem solving (including mild to moderate reactivity). Read more We're also a proud member of the Alberta Force Free Alliance: https://albertaforcefreealliance.com/ The foundation programs for puppies, teens and adults include: Puppy Start Right (PSR) Privates (for pups under 6 months of age). PSR Privates does include weekly group puppy-socialization when there are a number of age-matched registrants enrolled. The PSR curriculum is based on the exclusive curriculum the Karen Pryor Academy shares with PSRI (Puppy Start Right for Instructors) Graduates, and the Puppy Start Right book written by Dr. Ken Martin & and Deb Martin. Clicker Foundations/Manners for adolescent and adult dogs (5 months of age and up) group class. This small group class (maximum 4 teams) is held weekly on the weekend, outdoors and on-site. You don't have to wait for one course to end to begin your manners course; admission is rolling and new registrants can join in on the weekend fun at any time. The CF/Manners curriculum is based on the exclusive beginner's manners curriculum the Karen Pryor Academy shares with their graduate KPA CTPs. Clicker training is an effective and force-free method to train all animals (not just dogs). Based in the science of learning theory, clicker training is the real-world application of classical conditioning and operant conditioning in combination with positive reinforcement. In a nutshell, if you wish you could just take a photo of your dog when he does something you like, develop it on the spot, show the photo to your dog, and say, “If you do this again, I’ll make it worth your while”, and so he does, then this method is for owners like you. Profound bonds form between handler and animal as they connect as a team, and build the communication they will need for a lifetime of fun and learning together.
