St. Sahag St. Mesrob Armenian Saturday School operates under the auspices of Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church An Overview: St. Sahag St. Mesrob Armenian Saturday School was founded in 1956 under the auspices of the Holy Trinity Armenian Church of Toronto. It is the oldest Armenian language school in Toronto. Currently in its 59th academic year, the school is a vibrant educational institution. Read more During the past five years, the School’s enrolment has exceeded 170 students each academic year. Many of these students are the children of the School’s alumni. Our school offers classes from Nursery to Grade 8. In addition, there are three separate classes that specialize in the Eastern Armenian. The primary language of instruction in the school is in Western Armenian. Mission and Vision Statement: To create an environment where students have the opportunity to connect with and be immersed in their Armenian heritage by exploring its cultural dimensions including religion, Armenian history, art, literature, and music through the study of the Armenian language. The Armenian Studies program of St. Sahag St. Mesrob Armenian Saturday School promotes Armenian education to preserve the Armenian faith, language and culture and to prepare the future leaders of the community to take pride in their Armenian heritage and to make valuable contributions within the Armenian Community and society at large. Academic Year: The academic year extends from September to June. The school operates a total of 34 Saturdays. School hours are 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with a 30-minute break for lunch and recess. Curriculum: The curriculum is developed by Armenian educators. We continually strive to improve our teaching materials and methods. We apply interactive and collaborative styles of teaching. Classroom Instruction focuses on Armenian language oral communication, reading, comprehension, and writing. Students are taught Armenian language, history, geography, music, religion, and culture. Extracurricular activities include a chess club and an Armenian art class with a focus on drama and dance that takes place weekly from 1:45-2:30 p.m. School Council: The School is governed by a School Council appointed by the Parish Council of the Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church of Toronto.
